Bold & Beautiful

Everything so perfect. And softenly amazed. But courage too; it is no easy world where this baby is born.

Alles zo gaaf. En ontwapenend verwonderd. Maar ook moed, het is geen gemakkelijke wereld waar deze baby geboren is.

Three Little Friends

These three lively girlfriends gladly wanted on the photograph. And they stood on holding our hands during our trip along the beach of Tanji. I think that it had to do with the balloons, which we kept in our pockets for this type of occasions :)
They also left us a present. After three days our hands had still something fishy about it. :) 

Deze drie vrolijke vriendinnen wilden maar wat graag op de foto. En ze stonden erop om onze hand vast te houden gedurende onze tocht over het strand van Tanji. Ik denk dat het te maken had met de ballonnen die we in onze broekzak bewaarden voor dit soort gelegenheden. :)
Ook zij lieten ons een cadeautje achter. Na drie dagen roken onze handen nog altijd naar vis. :)

Contradiction

A particular combination, this couple standing along the roadside. Do they belong to each other, or are they just accidentally waiting for the same bus? With regard to their colours they match particular good. What remains, we will leave it to themselves.

Een bijzondere combinatie dit paar staande langs de kant van de weg. Horen ze bij elkaar, of staan ze toevallig op dezelfde bus te wachten? Qua kleur matchen ze bijzonder goed, de rest laten we maar aan henzelf over.

Retailer

The Gambians are real traders. What, where and when that makes no difference.
Peanuts, pants, homemade coconutbutter or a second-hand pullover.
On the street, in the bus or the boat.
By day, at night or during your diner.
They employ every opportunity.

De Gambianen zijn echte handelaars. Wat, waar en wanneer dat maakt geen verschil.
Pinda's, onderbroeken, zelfgemaakte coconutbutter of een tweedehands trui.
Op straat, in de bus of de boot.
Overdag, 's avonds of tijdens je diner.
Ze benutten elke gelegenheid.

Reggae

A striking character between all traditionally dressed compatriots. The guitar, to complete the image. In the background the yellow taxi's for the local population. The tourists are considered to use the green taxi's with the determined tariffs.

Een opvallende figuur tussen alle traditioneel geklede landgenoten. De gitaar maakt het beeld compleet.  In de achtergrond de gele taxi's voor de lokale bevolking. De toeristen worden geacht gebruik te maken van de groene taxi's met de vastgestelde tarieven.

His Big Smile

Underway to Serekunda Market. This boy tried keeping up the minibus what succeeded him quite a while. He had, nevertheless, fun that a photograph was taken.

Onderweg naar Serekunda Market. Deze knul probeerde het minibusje bij te houden. Wat hem een tijdje aardig lukte.
Hij had er toch wel lol in dat er een foto genomen werd.

Colourful

Make a living

A typical picture in almost every hotel in The Gambia. Staff in colourful uniforms. Here a Gambian who looks after the garden around the hotel. To keep the garden green- and colourful, their continuing attention is necessary.

Een typisch beeld wat je in bijna elk hotel in The Gambia tegen zult komen. Personeel in kleurige uniformen. Hier een Gambiaan die de tuin rondom het hotel verzorgt, want om die groen en kleurrijk te houden is hun voortdurende aandacht noodzakelijk.
